Baker & Emily Mayfield Foundation Announce ‘Walk-On’ Scholarship for Student-Athletes

Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ quarterback Baker Mayfield and his wife Emily Mayfield’s foundation, the Baker & Emily Mayfield Foundation, announced today the launch of the “Walk-On Scholarship, presented by the Baker & Emily Mayfield Foundation” to be awarded to walk-on student-athletes.

The Baker & Emily Mayfield Foundation will award two $10,000 scholarships to currently enrolled sophomores, juniors, seniors or graduate students, who are active walk-on student-athletes at their university. Full eligibility and application requirements are below.

My experience as a walk-on student athlete shaped who I am today. Emily and I wanted to find a way to support future walk-ons to reach their goals and full potential. The hard work and dedication these athletes put in every day and the belief they have in themselves got them this far. I hope this scholarship can help them reach even greater heights in and out of sports, by relieving some of the financial pressure of college.
— Baker Mayfield

Mayfield became the first ever walk-on to open an FBS season as quarterback at Texas Tech University before transferring to the University of Oklahoma, where he played for three seasons and capped off his collegiate career by becoming the first ever walk-on player to win the Heisman Trophy in 2017. He would also become the first former walk-on to be selected as the number one overall pick in an NFL draft during the 2018 NFL Draft.
